Hiking to the Saut d'Acomat in Guadeloupe

The Saut d'Acomat is a waterfall located in Pointe-Noire, on Basse-Terre in Guadeloupe. Its turquoise water basin and its natural setting make it a very visited place. However, it is important to know the different accesses and the precautions to take before going there.

Access and directions

The classic trail to the Saut d'Acomat is short and relatively easy. From the car park along the road, it takes about 10 minutes of descent to reach the waterfall. However, the trail can be slippery, especially after rain.

Another, longer route, goes through the Grande Plaine River. This path is more physically demanding and includes passages in the water. It offers an immersive experience in the rainforest, with the possibility of exploring pools upstream. This route requires good physical condition and experience in aquatic hiking. The GPX track in this article does not show this route.

Precautions to take

Saut d'Acomat is often associated with jumping from the rocks into its deep pool. However, this activity presents risks. Swimming can be dangerous due to currents and whirlpools, which can cause drowning. It is therefore crucial to carefully assess the conditions before getting into the water.

In addition, as the site is very busy, it is best to go there early in the morning to enjoy a quieter setting.
