The Moustique Canyon, nestled in Petit-Bourg in Guadeloupe, is a unique hike that combines a forest trail, a steep incline in the forest, and a trip up the Moustique River.
A Hike in Three Stages
The hike is divided into three distinct parts, each with its own characteristics and challenges:
The Access Path: Easy The first part of the journey takes place on a classic path, relatively easy and well marked. This initial section allows you to gently immerse yourself in the tropical atmosphere while admiring the surrounding vegetation and in particular the many flowers present!
Descent to the River: A Moderate Challenge The second part becomes more technical, requiring you to find the right passage in the dense forest to descend to the Moustique River. This section has a steep gradient, and suitable shoes are essential to avoid slipping. This part requires vigilance!
Going Up the River or Along its Banks The last section of the hike consists of following the Moustique River. Explorers have two options: walking directly into the river, braving the currents, or taking a path that runs along its banks. Both options offer magnificent scenery. As always, beware of rising waters and landslides in bad weather (there have been landslides here before).
